A Three-Part Series

The Berkley Schools Teaching & Learning Department is excited to see Bridges in Mathematics, the new elementary math curricular resource, taking off in TK-5th grade classrooms. This three-part Berkley Beat series will be sharing more about this new curricular resource.

Bridges in Mathematics is a dynamic curriculum that combines direct instruction, structured investigations and hands-on activities to build both conceptual understanding and procedural fluency. This resource aligns with the Department vision for students to engage in thinking, sense-making and problem-solving – skills essential for communicating and thinking like mathematicians. The program is fully aligned to the Michigan K-12 Standards for Mathematics.

Bridges in Mathematics has a family support website that includes Unit Overview letters. These letters highlight the key strategies and concepts that are taught throughout the unit. It also highlights key vocabulary and sample models. In addition, the Math At Home website provides a collection of activities and routines that families can engage in mathematical games and conversations at home.
