Families Stay Connected with the Math Learning

Bridges in Mathematics offers opportunities for families to stay connected in their child’s learning. All students kindergarten through fifth grade have a Home Connections book, which have short assignments that provide students an opportunity to practice and share their math thinking at home. This may include puzzles, games, or practice problems tied to what’s happening in the class.

Unit Assessments are opportunities for teachers to formally assess student learning, guide their instruction and support each learner’s needs. Each unit assessment highlights skills that are developing and skills for proficiency. Students may still be developing some concepts, so scoring is less about a total percentage and more about identifying what students can do. It is not recommended to give students study guides that mimic the assessment. Home Connections and student journal pages are good resources for reviewing concepts.

Family Assessment Letters will be sent home with each assessment to indicate which problems and concepts students are working toward developing and which concepts are proficient. The second page of the Family Assessment Letters will include QR codes and links for additional practice and opportunities to extend concepts at home.
